There is often misunderstanding about the upgrade policies for Ambassador and Royal Ambassador members.

Ambassador members are guaranteed one category upgrade from the room type they book and Royal Ambassador members are guaranteed Executive, Club or Suite regardless of the booked room type.

Some members and hotels have understood this that Royal Ambassador members are eligible for two category upgrade from the booked room type, but this interpretation is nowhere to be founded from the program T&C’s.

Here are the suites that are not part of the upgrade pool:

InterContinental Hong Kong: Signature Suites (Terrace Suite, CEO Suite, Presidential Suite).

InterContinental Park Lane: Signature Suites.

InterContinental Sydney: Australia Suite, State Suite and Governor Suites.

InterContinental Sydney Double Bay: Royal Suite. (NEW)

InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort: Penthouse, Beach Villa, Rock Villa, 2 bed Rock Villa and Royal Residence.

InterContinental San Francisco: Bay Suite, Terrace Suite, Presidential Suite.

InterContinental Athenaeum Athens: Presidential Suite.

InterContinental Adelaide: King Diplomatic Suite and King Presidential Suite.

InterContinental Moscow Tverskaya: Duncan – Premier Suite, Nizhinsky – Presidential Suite and Ulanova – Royal Suite. (Some Renaming of Suites)

InterContinental Amstel Amsterdam: Presidential Suite (includes Executive Presidential Suite, Executive Presidential Twin room & Executive Presidential Junior Suite), Dom Perignon Suite (includes Executive Dom Perignon Suite & Executive Dom Perignon Junior Suite).

InterContinental Berlin: All Club Suites & Presidential Suite.

InterContinental Times Square: Penthouse Suite and all Manhattan Suites. (NEW)

InterContinental Geneva: Panoramic Suites, Presidential and Diplomatic Residences and The Residence. (NEW)

InterContinental Asiana Saigon: The Presidential Suite. (NEW)

InterContinental Buckhead: Grand Suite, Royal Suite, Ambassador Suite and Presidential Suite. (NEW)

InterContinental Los Angeles Century City: Royal Suite, Presidential Suite, Elite Honeymoon Suite and Premier Suite (NEW)

Conclusion

This change means that booking a one category below of these suite categories doesn’t guarantee you an upgrade per the updated T&C’s.

Not a huge change, but could be meaningful for some that use this program to get access to these high category suites at a discount.
