In the past, I have redeemed for Singapore Airlines first class numerous time using BMI Diamond Club (how I miss this little program) and United miles.
United Airlines has devalued its mileage awards (especially for partners and first) and booking Singapore Airlines awards must be made over the phone (United really don’t want MileagePlus members to use the airline). Premium class awards, however, are very good value if you use KrisFlyer miles.
So, I decided to credit some partner transaction to KrisFlyer miles and ended up with 339,500 miles. Singapore Airlines flies number of fifth freedom routes including Barcelona to Sao Paulo.
The flight doesn’t operate daily but had availability in all classes for the date that I needed. Economy, business and first class were all open.
The prices that you first see are without the 15% discount for online bookings. The economy class would have been less than 18,000 miles and the price difference in miles between business and first was less than 10,000 miles.
The price for a first class seat on this segment is 58,225 miles + the actual taxes of $37.24. The Brazil has banned fuel surcharges (wish all the governments would end this scam).
Singapore Airlines tries to pull up a mini DCC (Dynamic Currency Conversion) scam at the end when I was using my credit card issued in Euro area. The exchange rate was off by 4.3%. “The most competitive rate from our financial partners”…..

The ticket was issued on the spot and eticket received emailed.
These Singapore Airlines awards using KrisFlyer miles are vey good value and availability is not bad at all. Probably because redeeming for first class on Singapore Airlines is borderline impossible using partner miles.
