Just now, Hertz sent an email to it’s Hertz Club Gold members that effective 15th of July 2015 for all rentals in the United States and Canada customers will be required to produce a refueling receipt if they drive 75 miles or less with their rental car. If a receipt can not be presented a 13.99$ charge will be applied to the car rental total. You can access the web version of this email here.
I can just assume that this change is being introduced because there are increasing occurrences of customers returning their rental car without refueling it for the last xx amount of miles in the best case.
I welcome this change because more than once have I received a rental car and short after driving off the fuel gauge fell one level. Most recently this happened at Hertz Los Angeles Airport. I took a picture of the fuel gauge and the mileage as proof and had it adjusted upon return.
The receipt only needs to be presented, not left behind. So make sure you ask the cashier or get one printed at the pump for your upcoming Hertz returns.
