The very popular Extra Bonus Promotion for Starpoints transfers to American Airlines AAdvantage is back! American has published this promo on it’s website (access here) for all transfers until AUG 7th 2015.

AA Transfer

Many, including myself have waited for this promotion for quite some time and it’s finally back.

If you have collected a large number of Starpoints or have taken advantage of the recent promotional pricing for the purchase of Starpoints this is a great opportunity to initiate a transfer to AAdvatage for some nice awards.

Here are the Terms & Conditions from aa.com as referenced above:

AAdvantage® Bonus Mile Offer Terms and Conditions

To qualify for this AAdvantage® bonus mile offer, member must initiate the AAdvantage mileage conversions with the Starwood Preferred Guest® program between 12:00 am Central time July 1, 2015 and 11:59 pm Central time August 7, 2015 (the “Promotion Period”), and be in good standing in the AAdvantage program. Members can convert multiple times during the Promotion Period.

To earn the 20% conversion bonus, member must convert points from the Starwood Preferred Guest program. This offer is non-transferable and non-reversible.

Bonus miles will be posted by American Airlines to the qualifying AAdvantage member’s account within 7 business days after the initial conversion activity has been posted by Starwood Preferred Guest. Bonus miles earned in this promotion do not count toward elite status qualification.

As usual, if you transfer 20,000 Starpoints you always get 5000 Miles Bonus plus the 20%.

20,000 Starpoints = 20,000 AAdvantage miles
5,000 Standard SPG bonus = 5,000 AAdvantage miles
AAdvantage 20% mileage bonus = 5,000 AAdvantage miles
Total = 30,000 AAdvantage miles

Conclusion

In my opinion the use of SPG Points for miles conversion is the only sensible way of redeeming Starpoints these days (with some rare exceptions). Starwood has made significant changes to the categories of many hotels and points required per night redemption are far beyond reasonable in most cases.

I always purchase the maximum allowed number of Starpoints (20,000) every year and wait for a promotion like this which appear every now and then.
