IHG Rewards Club Spire status introduced last week (read more here) comes with 100% bonus on base points for member stays at all InterContinental Hotels Group brands.
InterContinental Royal Ambassador status grants 50% bonus on base points for stays at InterContinental hotels.
You can access IHG’s web page for status level here and Ambassador program home page here.
When I asked from the IHG spokesperson whether the Spire and Royal Ambassador bonuses are combinable or if the Spire bonus would replace the latter one, the reply was that Royal Ambassador members would receive the Spire bonus for InterContinental stays and no additional bonuses for being a RA.
Apparently this is not the case, however. Royal Ambassador members, at least for now, continue to receive both the 100% Spire and 50% Royal Ambassador bonus for their InterContinental stays.
Here’s screenshot that a reader sent me for two stays that posted on or after last Friday:
Both the stays at the InterContinental Instanbul and London Park Lane received combined 150% bonus on base points.
This is really welcomed change for Royal Ambassador members that were automatically given the Spire status as well. Considering the RA requirements, I doubt that there would have been any that wouldn’t have qualified.
Earning 150% bonus before any promotions is the richest points earnings compared to non-status members across the hotel loyalty programs that I follow.
