UPDATE: Airberlin Topbonus (Oneworld) Status Match (New Address requirement)

Airberlin Topbonus has been offering easy status matches to their Gold frequent flier card that maps to Oneworld Sapphire.

UPDATE Airberlin Topbonus Status Match

I have covered this rather easy process on two previous posts (access here and here). Airberlin has now changed the terms and conditions of this offer.

You can access Airberlin’s web page for status match here.

A LoyaltyLobby reader contacted me after the status match request was denied due to the following new requirement:

This offer is only available for German, Austrian and Swiss members. A Status Match with another oneworld® airline is not possible.

This means that you must use German, Austrian or Swiss address on your Topbonus account for the match to go through (you don’t have to live there though).

Conclusion

This is not that surprising move considering that these are the most important markets for the Airberlin. There must have been too many matches from areas that they don’t have much interest. Someone also noted that there had been some wholesale “selling” on the status in China.

Most of us probably know someone living in those three countries that could accept a membership package from Airberlin, so this is not that drastic move for many.
