Expedia offers a quite liberal Best Price Guarantee that promises to match prices on US based websites and throws in a $50 hotel coupon (minimum spend $100) that you can use for future booking.
As I tend to book flights using Expedia (and sometimes hotels too to use the coupons), I have done quite a few guarantees over the years and the response time used to be less than an hour (at least once less than 10 minutes).
You can access Expedia Best Price Guarantee here.
I booked some flights on Aegean from Thessaloniki to Tirana via Athens. Priceline had the same itinerary for 10 cents less and I filed for the Best Price Guarantee on July 4.
Quite frankly, I had already forgotten the claim until I received the following email below yesterday:
Thank you for contacting Expedia regarding our Best Price Guarantee.
We’ve got great news!
We’ve approved your request and initiated a refund in the amount of $0.10 to the original form of payment used during your purchase. The time it takes to post to your account will depend on how quickly your credit card company processes these funds.
Here’s what Expedia promises their response time to be:
Thank you for your submittal. We’ve received your request for the Expedia Best Price Guarantee.
Please expect to receive a response from us within 72 hours.
Thank you for choosing Expedia and letting us help you Find Yours.
It is just crazy that they have went from processing these sometimes within minutes after filling the claim to now taking more than two weeks (16 days to be exact). I had already concluded the flights and there is no way for Expedia to verify the screenshot of the Priceline’s price that I attached to the claim (was real).
Expedia did process the claim, but taking more than half a month to process a Best Price Guarantee Claim when they promise to act within 72 hours is ridiculous.
