When IHG Rewards Club introduced the new Spire level with 100% bonus on base points, the program was silent what would happen to the Royal Ambassador bonus for InterContinental stays.
Prior to the Spire introduction, Royal Ambassador members earned 50% Platinum bonus + 50% Royal Ambassador bonus for their IC stays.
When I asked from the IHG spokesperson whether the Spire and Royal Ambassador bonuses are combinable or if the Spire bonus would replace the latter one, the reply was that Royal Ambassador members would receive the Spire bonus for InterContinental stays and no additional bonuses for being a RA.
This was not, however, the case right after the Spire level was launched two weeks ago. Screenshot provided by a LoyaltyLobby reader showed (below them again) that 100% Spire and 50% Royal Ambassador bonuses (150% of base points) were posting for the stays:
Now, IHG Rewards Club seems to have changed this and only the Spire bonus is posting for Royal Ambassador member InterContinental stays per the screenshot received from a reader for his stay in Singapore past week:
What a mess! So, this means that Royal Ambassador members won’t earn anything more for their InterContinental stays compared to pre-Spire.
This does mean, however, that Spire members that have not even signed up for the Ambassador program earn the same number of points as Royal Ambassadors.
