After completing my Balkan tour this week, I was on my way from Ljubljana to Malaga to meet a friend and the flights connectivity between LJU-AGP is bad.
I had first a paid ticket via Istanbul with terrible overnight connection, but ended up changing it to a more humane overnight at the Zurich (using miles) and booked the Holiday Inn Express hotel for 9 hour stay.
There were quiet a few issues with this HIX starting that they had automatically canceled my reservation at 6PM claiming that it was not “guaranteed” to the fact that they didn’t have fitness center.
What draw my attention at the time of checking in was the “speed” or lack thereof of their complimentary WiFi capped at just 512 KBPS (remember the 1990’s?).
Would you call 2 MBPS connection fast and 4 MBPS one super fast?
After I exchanged few words with the person checking me in and after she consulted the MOD, I was given the 4 MBPS voucher on complimentary basis.
I really would like to know what is the HIX band standard for complimentary WiFi?
It cannot be 512 KBPS. The minimum acceptable speed today (for me) is 2 MBPS to 3 MBPS. Many hotels on this trip have had excellent connections offering 20 MBPS or higher connectivity.
