A reader contacted us to bring our attention to a discussion related to the recent GOL Smiles Mileage Sales, some of which had up to 200% bonus.
Our reader sent us a link to the travel site Info Viajera (access here) where an email was published which has been sent to one of the customers who purchased miles under such a promotion.
Las promociones Smiles acerca de los motivos 298 y 312 sólo son válidas para los clientes con CPF y con tarjeta de crédito emitida en Brasil, como se indica en la regulación de las promociones. Clientes no calificados para las promociones tendrán sus cuentas suspendidas hasta que las transacciones sean canceladas, las millas sean devueltas y los cargos revocados.
* Nos gustaría informarle también que la promoción está en el aire hoy, n° 331, “La compra una milla y obtener 3″ no es elegible para las tarjetas de crédito y CPF emitidos fuera de Brasil.
Overall it says that the promotions number ‘298’, ‘312’ and the ongoing one ‘331’ are only valid for customers with CPF and credit cards issued in Brasil. and the non-qualifying customers will have their accounts suspended until the transactions are canceled, the miles taken back, and the charges canceled/refunded as well.
The GOL site doesn’t display these promotions anymore and the last promotion with such restrictions was number 289 (LoyaltyLobby wrote about it here and also outlined the T&C requirements). Either the email has some sort of typo, confusion or I’m clearly missing something but time will tell.
It was pretty much clear from the T&C related to these promotions that there are certain requirements in place for this last 200% promotion. I find it interesting how GOL restricts these purchases and even deems it worthwhile to go after individual accounts through auditing them.
It might be there was some severe damage done and GOL discovered a major flaw in their award chart (such as the intra asia redemptions on Qatar First Class) and now they try to keep it in line.
