Accor used to have bunch of properties that were not Le Club Accorhotels participating and there were not identified during the booking process at all that lead missed bonus opportunities for many.
None of the ibis Budget hotels worldwide and all ibis hotels in China re excluded from Le Club Accorhotels. Then there are some random properties that are listed as non-participating on Accor’s website here.
When I was making a reservation to stay at a Mercure hotel this weekend for the Scandinavian promo (read more here), I noticed that Accor has recently made a change to their website and now identifies the hotels where guests can earn points.
This change is probably also due to a fact that Accor is planning to offer their booking platform to some non-affiliated hotels and you wouldn’t earn points or get benefits at them. Making it clear during the booking process is vital.
Accor and Le Club Accorhotels should work with ibis budget (worldwide) and ibis hotels in China to bring them in as participating hotels. The number of points that you earn at ibis is already lowered so doubt that it would cause too much of an uproar among the franchisees due to the costs involved.
It is an interesting experiment for Accor to allow third party unaffiliated hotels to be listed on their web site. One would think that franchisees wouldn’t be too happy about this development. What is the benefit booking any of these non-affiliated hotels on Accor.com over OTA?
