Starwood Preferred Guest made an announcement earlier this year (read more here) that it would allow SPG 50 Platinums (those that have 50 nights or more) to choose from a number of options instead of just crediting their accounts with 10 SNAs (Suite Night Awards).
Suite Night Awards were launched few years ago as part of the increased benefit package for those that stay 50/75/100 nights at SPG properties yearly.
You can access SPG’s web page for this selecting your preferred option here.
The current options are:
- 10 Suite Night Awards™
- Gift Gold status to a friend or family member
- SPG® $100 donation to UNICEF
- $100 Amazon.com gift code*
- $85 credit for the TSA Pre✓® application fee*
- 4 Uber® ride credits for up to $25 each**
*Available only in the U.S.
**Available in select cities.
So, for those outside of the United States and that don’t have Uber available during their travels or don’t want to use the service, there are just three options.
As I have said several times previously, the idea behind these SNAs is a good one but implementation has been terrible. They can only be confirmed maximum 5 days before of your stay and the selection of suites is not as great as the “Select Standard” one.
SPG hotels don’t get reimbursed for these, so why would they offer confirmable suites in advance that they could sometimes sell? These would make more sense IF Starwood make them clear at the time of booking.
I had most of my SNAs just expire the other year and didn’t have 50 nights with SPG last year (did have 25 stays or more to qualify for PLT). Will get the SNA selection later this year and I am not sure what to choose from the above list. The $100 Amazon.com certificate is probably the most worthwhile.
Personally, I really see no value of having SNAs. My Starwood upgrade success at properties that have suites is or is very close to 100%.
