Sixt Rent A Car: Free Platinum / Gold Status Match For Airline & Hotel Elite Customers

Germany based Sixt Rent a Car has expanded to many countries worldwide during the last couple of year, posing a harsh competition to the big agencies with a well assorted fleet of cars.

Sixt Car

What’s little known is that Sixt offers an official status match program, offering Elite customers of various airlines and hotel chains Platinum Status with the Sixt Express Rental program.

In the past, Sixt used to advertise this benefit on each of their country websites but it seems that they now have specific landing pages for this promotion. It is available for both Platinum and the lower tier Gold status (be aware that official upgrade benefits are only part of the platinum card!).

I did find though that the Sixt Norway website still offers it comprehensively (access the promotion here).

Sixt Express is solely a benefit program. It does not offer a separate rewards system for free car rentals, instead customers can earn airline miles or hotel points with the program of their preference.

Sixt Platinum

Sixt has some really nice cars in their fleet already and a double upgrade (at U.S. locations) should result is a decent vehicle.

Here is how you can sign up for this program on the website (following the link quoted above):

Sixt Status

For participation you will need to upload an image of your membership card or account statement for verification.

The list of companies whose elite members are considered for this status match promotion is quite extensive:

Conclusion

I’m not renting cars as much anymore as I did in the past. Only when traveling to the U.S., Canada, or Europe I usually need a rental car and my preferred companies are either Hertz or Sixt.

As far as stations in the U.S. are concerned I’m under the impression that Sixt prices their cars very competitively, especially entry level premium cars like Mercedes C Class or BMW 3 Series (for roughly the same price as Hertz ‘Intermediate’ cars). Pair that with a double upgrade as part of your status perk and you might drive off with something nice!

This status will be good for a while, in fact the matches i processed a few years ago are still Platinum and never expired.
