Air Canada Aeroplan sent out an email to their members asking to log in and update the personal details with a personal identification number (PIN).
The PIN Code is required for all inquiries that involve the call center. In the future agents will be asking for this password before they can proceed to access your account.
With this step, Aeroplan adds an additional layer of protection to their accounts which many other loyalty programs use for years already (such as Lufthansa Miles&More).
To create a PIN code one simply has to log in to the Aeroplan account and select the section
‘Your Aeroplan’ -> ‘Personal Information’ -> ‘Login Preferences’
A random 4 digit number will do the trick and the new PIN is set up and ready to go.
Aeroplan is one of these programs where you have to use the service center for award bookings every once in a while, especially for bookings that include stopovers. If the access code is not set up properly one will be unable to proceed with any telephone inquiry so better set it up when you have a chance.
