A rather disgusting story surfaced today in the U.S. where a male passenger on a JetBlue flight from Anchorage to Portland started to urinate on other passengers around him.
The 27 year old man got arrested upon arrival in Portland and briefly detained by local police after taking a mugshot so happy that it would be suitable for his parents coffee table.
It’s not the first time passengers urinate in an aircraft cabin. Most can remember the incident where even famous actor Gerard Depardieu urinated right into the aisle a couple years back. At least he did not sprinkle onto his fellow passengers.
Probably the most amazing thing about this case though is that it all seemed to happen without any sort of trigger and in such a casual way.
CNN reported the story (access here).
A passenger on a Portland, Oregon-bound JetBlue flight is accused of urinating on fellow travelers, seats and luggage. Jeff D. Rubin, 27, slept through most of the three-hour flight originating from Anchorage, Alaska, according to a Port of Portland police report.
About 30 minutes before landing “he stood up and began urinating through the crack of the seat onto the passengers seated in front of him,” read the report.
“At some point Jeff Rubin lost his balance causing him to fall backwards and urinate upwards which got on the passengers and seats next to him as well as some other passenger’s personal belongings,” police said.
When police boarded Flight 47 in Portland, Rubin was slumped in his seat and sleeping, officials said.
Gross. Either the man was under the influence of something or he has some psychological issues because let’s face it, how else would someone do such a thing? His demeanor seemed rather jovial giving his facial expression on the mugshot when police booked him at the detention center (see in the CNN Article referenced above).
Rubin, of Gresham, Oregon, faces two misdemeanor charges: criminal mischief and offensive littering.
He was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center, where urinals are readily available in all cells.
Those charges sound pretty harmless compared to what people sometimes get slammed with for similar incidents or even just having sex on the plane. Maybe at trial some mitigating circumstances will be presented.
This is not the first time JetBlue has been in the news for incidents involving urinating passengers. In 2011 a US Skiing Team member peed on a young girl during a red eye flight to JFK (access NY Post story here). Maybe diapers should be distributed in the seat pocket for JetBlue redeye flights.
I would have been interested in the reaction of the other passengers. I don’t want to imagine how all of this went down but I can just assume that it could easily result in a violent resolution of the matter.
Hopefully his jail cell had no other inmates at the time or they might have experienced a Golden Shower from Rubin as well.
