A LoyaltyLobby reader dropped me an email regarding the qualification criteria for Royal Ambassador status because some of his InterContinental stays were earning Royal Ambassador bonus.
You can access InterContinental’s web page for Ambassador program here.
Here’s the email from the reader:
I have a question about my IHG membership, I had been Royal Ambassador last year, and this year I was downgraded to Platinum Ambassador, but I just had a stay in Intercontinental and I still got the Royal Ambassador Bonus points, does that mean I am Royal Ambassador again?! Or I am getting this by mistake?! Should I contact IHG member service to ask about this? Or just be happy with this mistake?
Here’s the attached screenshot:
You got 100% bonus (RA + PLT) for the InterContinental Phoenicia stay in Beirut and just the Platinum one for the Crowne Plaza stay in Guangzhou. BTW I have stayed at both of these hotels. Next time try the Le Vendome in Lebanon.
The Royal Ambassador bonus nowadays just posts as one line “Elite Bonus Points” for the same amount as the bonus points for non-InterContinental stays.
The points for Royal Ambassador members at InterContinental hotels used to post like in your screenshot. This must be some technical issue at IHG’s end.
The Royal Ambassador qualification criteria is 60 paid nights, of which minimum 20 should be at least 3 different InterContinental hotels. There were briefly criteria listed on IHG’s website requiring 75 nights, but this is likely not the case (at least not yet).
