American Airlines has started to send out emails today to select AAdvantage members offering them to keep their Gold, Platinum or Executive Platinum status for cash.
American Airlines here targets members that have not yet qualified for their current status for the 2016 membership year, but doesn’t take into account travel that the member may have already ticketed for between now and the new year.

The price that you must pay to renew Gold, Platinum or Executive Platinum status is dependent of how far you from are reaching the required elite qualifying miles or segments this year.

Most of the time it would be cheaper to just hop on to the plane and get the last few miles in, but not everyone has time or energy to do that at the end of year that is holiday time for most.
