A LoyaltyLobby reader dropped me an email about his (unsatisfactory) experience with the Hyatt Gold Passport Diamond status match that was launched last week (read more here) and then changed a day later (read more here).
Here’s the reader comment:
Just a quick line to say that I requested a Status Match from Hyatt, as per your recent article. They finally got back to me and said they would give me Platinum, which I see needs 5 stays per calendar year. I am an IHG Platinum Ambassador and a HHonors Diamond (and have requalified for both for 2016) and used my Hilton card/details for the Status Match request. What they offered me is equivalent to Hilton’s SILVER level i.e. 2 levels under what I already have. I wrote back to them to point this out and to tell them not to bother sending the member’s pack, as I am no longer interested in their company !
I thought you and your readers may wish to know that the Hyatt offer seems to be a waste of time and they don’t seem to really want to match status for status but rather may just be trying to get personal information for future publicity/offers etc.
I do think that the whole status match to Diamond was ill-thought and they probably didn’t anticipate the pend on demand for it and ended up being flooded with requests.
Instead of getting back in promised day, they were suddenly emailing/direct messaging that it can take up to 14 days and then suddenly giving only Platinum status with those top status members from Hilton, IHG, Marriott and Starwood. Not good.
But this is something that one has come to expect from Hyatt. The Hyatt Touch that they advertised for years is long gone. Don’t run a status promo unless you are willing to honor it.
