A LoyaltyLobby reader sent me an email regarding renewing Marriott Rewards Platinum status with less than the official requirement of 75 nights.
You can read more about Marriott Rewards Platinum status here.
Here’s the email from Joe:
So far this year I have 72 nights with Marriott which should be 3 nights shy of renewing my platinum status. However when I logged in a few days ago to my Marriott Rewards account there was a note that my status has been renewed.
Have you ever heard of this? I wonder if 72 is “close enough” or if perhaps Marriott has gone back to my award stays earlier this year and factored that into the renewal, even those were before the new policy of award stays counting for elite status took effect.
Anyways, not sure if you’ve heard of Marriott doing this, so I thought I’d ask.
Marriott Rewards often extends the status without hitting the official requalification criteria. This is true especially if you have exceeded the criteria several times in previous years.
Marriott extended my Platinum status for several years when I was nowhere near the official requalification criteria.
Remember that you can always buy back the status in case that you are downgraded (read more here) or do a status fast track.
