Communispace runs this for SPG and it is used to gather “intelligence” from frequent guests such as what they like/dislike about promotions, hotels and amenities offered.

Starwood apparently made a major purge among the members of this community and is now inviting fresh bodies to participate to the discussion. It is an easy way to earn some free Starpoints in lieu for your time (if you got the invite).
I was part of similar “community” from Hyatt years ago that was also hosted on the Communispace platform that was terrible. I hope that they have done some updates.
