Whine Wednesdays: Internet Access At Marriott’s Protea Hotels In Africa

This week’s Whine Wednesdays case is about the internet access at Protea Hotels in South Africa that are now all Marriott Rewards participating.

I had a night stay to check out the brand in Cape Town this past weekend and was surprised how my Marriott Rewards Platinum member Premium internet was handled.

You can access Marriott’s web page for Protea hotels here.

It didn’t cross my mind when booking that they would have bandwidth limitation in place for guests staying at the hotel.

The “room page” actually states that the free internet is only 150MB (open your phone and it’s gone), but in fact that IT was 500MB.

Seems that some Protea hotels have this information on Marriott’s website while others do not. I am not sure if there is a limit at all of their hotels or not.

I just find this utterly ridiculous. The 500MB is enough for basic web browsing, but everything today is in the “cloud” and I do consume quite a bit of data daily. The 500MB is simply not enough and, if the hotel has such a limitation in place, I would book away.
