Luxury Collection hotel Kämp in Helsinki (Finland) severs its Starwood affiliation effective February 29, 2016, in favor of Leading Hotels of the World.
The hotel will apparently honor all existing reservations including awards but guests will not receive any possible SPG elite benefits. There are no other SPG options in Helsinki.
You can access SPG’s web page for Kämp here.
This is really an iconic hotel in Helsinki and it will remain to be seen whether affiliation with Leading Hotels of the World (basically soft brand) will fill the rooms. The hotel must have felt that the fees associated with Starwood didn’t bring enough business.
I have stayed at the Kämp couple of times over the years. Most recently (last week), I decided to stay at the Indigo on Bulevard because it was difficult to justify the price of Kämp (2.5 times). I had three friends staying at the Kämp that were happy with their stays.
There is only one Starwood hotel left in the left that is the Sheraton Stockholm (not including the one Design Hotel in Iceland). Let’s hope that it remains part of Starwood throughout the May (I have reservation there for the Eurovision).
There are three Hilton options in Helsinki, several IHG and Radisson ones. None of them, however, is even closely same qualify as the Kämp.
