Hilton HHonors has Silver, Gold and Diamond elite status levels (Blue is a base one) of which both Gold and Diamond come with good benefits.
Gold status gets you a room upgrade to the executive level if available and lounge access (if upgraded to executive floor) or breakfast. Diamond members get lounge access regardless of the upgrade received and, although not officially Diamond status benefit, occasional suite upgrades at hotels.
You can read more about the Hilton HHonors Gold and Diamond benefits here.
Hilton HHonors Gold Match Challenge
You can get Hilton HHonors Gold status by carrying an affiliated credit card in a number of markets OR by participating in one of the Gold fast track offers that require just 4 stays within 90 days. You can read more about the various offer here.
Hilton HHonors Diamond Match Challenge
Hilton’s Diamond challenge requires 21 nights during a 90 day period. Occasionally, Hilton has also extended challenges based on stays instead of nights, although this is rare. The number of stays required during the 90 day period is 10.
Hilton may offer you Gold status for the duration of your Diamond challenge.
Requesting a Diamond challenge:
You must send your Marriott, Hyatt, Starwood, IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group), Fairmont Presidents Club, Choice, or Le Club Accorhotels account activity for the past 12 months to firstname.lastname@example.org and request the challenge.
You can also try requesting the stay based challenge and Gold status for the duration of the Diamond challenge.
If you complete the challenge successfully in 2015, the status is valid until March 2018.
There are also credit card products in some markets that award Diamond status after meeting a spend requirement.
Hilton HHonors was offering straight status matches to its Diamond status late 2015 but the offer came to an end early January. They continue to offer these status challenges, however.
The Hilton HHonors Gold status is very useful as it comes (most of the time) with executive club access and it is easy to get using one of the fast track offers requiring as few as 3 stays within 90 days. .
I have been generally satisfied with the Diamond status and benefits extended outside of North America and full service properties (that just don’t see the same high number of loyalty program elite members).
Note that all stays should count towards completing these challenges based on the reader experience in 2015 (read more here). Paid, award and cash + points stays have counted making fulfilling the challenge not that expensive if you have some points to play with.
