UPDATE: Marriott Elite Buy Back Promotion 2016 (Buy Back Your 2015 Silver, Gold Or Platinum Status)

Marriott enabled the Status Buy Back program website for 2016 membership year back in January, but has later updated the program terms and conditions unannounced.

Marriott is the only hotel loyalty program that allows you to buy back the status that you had the previous year for a set number of points. You can access my piece about the buy back program here.

This offer is valid through April 1, 2016 and allows only one level of buyback, which must match the Elite level you enjoyed in 2015. All Marriott Rewards program terms and conditions apply. Once your status has been reinstated for 2016, you can see your updated mobile Elite membership card in the Marriott app. If you don’t have enough points in your account, you can always buy up to 50,000 points every year.

This offer is valid through April 1, 2016 and allows only one level of buyback, which must match the Elite level you enjoyed in 2015. All Marriott Rewards program terms and conditions apply. Once your status has been reinstated for 2016, you can see your updated mobile Elite membership card in the Marriott app. Points used by members to buyback their previously attained Elite level will be permanently deducted from their Lifetime point balance. If you don’t have enough points in your account, you can always buy up to 50,000 points every year.

You can buy back the status you had in 2015 through April 1, 2016. The number of points required is dependent of the status level that you wish to maintain.

Conclusion

This means that Marriott will deduct the number of points both from your available AND lifetime balances. This may affect those that are going to lifetime Gold or Platinum status and have not earned much more points that your levels require (read more here).
