IAG has signed a binding MOU with Royal Air Maroc to implement Avios as the airline’s loyalty currency.
The IAG unveiled this information on their investor day presentation about the Avios program that I’ll cover on separate post.
You can access Royal Air Maroc’s website here.
This means that Avios members can earn and redeem miles for Royal Air Maroc flights.
It is unclear, however, if members from Iberia’s and British Airways program can redeem directly or if they have to move their Avios from the airline specific program to the general one first. IAG is the parent of British Airways, Iberia, Vueling and Aer Lingus.
Conclusion
There is British Airways Avios, Iberia Avios and this generic Avios, and you can move Avios between these accounts by linking them first. The number of Avios required for award flights depends which Avios program you use to redeem them from. Isn’t it bit confusing?
Interesting to see if this will end up linking Royal Air Maroc as British Airways and/or Iberia partner airline for earning elite qualifying tier points/miles.
