A LoyaltyLobby reader sent me an email about issues getting correct number of IHG Rewards Club points issued for stays in Poland and Russia. I covered similar issue with stays in the UK earlier (access here).

Here’s the email from the reader:

as a very happy follower and reader of your blog loyaltylobby.com I turn to you with a real problematic case of IHG Rewards Club Points calculation.

Since my first stay in Central- and Eastern Europe it turned out that IHG is double deducting the VAT from my paid hotel bill before calculating the rewards points. This leads to a loss of points between 10% in Poland and 18% in Russia (equal to the local hotel VATs).

I was addressing this issue multiple times to IHG and sometimes could get a “good will adjustment” and sometimes ended up with even less points then before. As you have something like solving problems of readers with the Rewards Club I though this could be a topic for you, since this systematic error could most likely not only effect me but many other members as well.

In the attachment I copied your the recent Email concerning the issue that I have sent to an IHG Rewards Champion employee at Holiday Inn Krakow, with the request to get the problem resolved. However since 2 weeks I have no reaction. You will find a detailed description of the problem in the description for both stays in Poland and Russia that were affected.

It is obvious here that the IHG Rewards Club has deducted the VAT from the VAT exclusive rate.

Same issue here. The VAT has been deducted twice.

Conclusion

This same issue has affected more than ten stays by this member in Poland and Russia. It does seem that this is systematic error and should affect all IHG Rewards Club members that stay in these two countries (and perhaps others too).

I have forwarded the PDF that the reader sent me to IHG spokesperson to find out if IHG Rewards Club is going to rectify this systematic issue and correct the number of points issued to members.
