Someone at Air China must have a fable for pork given the current catering at their Business/First Class lounges in Beijing this afternoon.
I like to eat pork so it’s not a problem for me but I was rather puzzled since plenty of people don’t eat pork and I wonder why Air China picks their catering in such a way that it excludes a whole group of (non-pork eating) customers.
It’s not uncommon even within my circle of friends to not eat pork either for religious or other reasons so I think Air China should maybe overthink their food options a little.
What was offered? Quite a lot actually for a Business Class lounge (the menu at the First Class lounge is always identical).
Fried Rice with Egg & Bacon, Pasta Carbonara, Pork and Mushrooms in Oyster Sauce, Corn Soup, Barbecue Pork Buns, Dim Sum Pork/Prawn.
Certain a great variety of food if you don’t mind to eat pork. I found the food options rather tasty and consider the Air China lounges in Beijing some of the better international departure lounges when it comes to food & beverage options even though Air China doesn’t have the best reputation in flight operations.
I don’t think there is much to this other than very typical straightforward thinking like the Chinese do it. They simply try to offer some dishes that cater to a more international taste. There is very little consideration for minorities who might not eat this or that anywhere in China, even though the Chinese kitchen is very diverse and you will find something for almost everyone at a local restaurant.
