This week the Compensation Clinic case comes from a reader’s Etihad flight in first class that had non-working shower.

Remember that you can always email me, send me a Facebook message or Tweet me about the issues you have with hotels, airlines and other travel providers. we’ll feature one new Compensation Clinic case each week.

You can access Etihad’s website here to read more about their A380 experience including shower.

Here’s the email from the reader:

I took EY A380 F Apartment from AUH to LHR. During the entire flight, shows facility didn’t work so nobody was able to have/experience a shower.

Anyway I reported this issue to Etiahd after flight, and they are offering 20K Etihad miles. As I don’t have much concept on the value of Etihad guest miles, I am not sure if this is an appropriate amount of compensation or not. Could you give me a piece of advice on this? Thanks !

Thank you for letting us know that the shower facility was not functioning when you were traveling with us to London. We understand that being able to take a shower and freshen up during your flight before you arrive at your destination can make a flight more pleasant, so we are really sorry you were not able to enjoy this facility during your trip.

Along with the reports received from our cabin crew, I have shared your feedback with our Guest Experience team, who will ensure that your feedback is used to help us improve our service.

As a goodwill gesture, I would like to offer you 20000 Etihad Guest Miles. I have already added these miles to your Etihad Guest Account EY xxxx. You may use these miles toward future Etihad flights or any of the rewards available in the Etihad Guest Reward Shop.

We are sorry your recent flight did not go as smoothly as we would have liked. We look forward to welcoming you on another Etihad Airways flight again soon.

Conclusion

The number of Etihad Airways Guest miles they are offering here is not a lot but enough for economy one-way or return in one of the short-haul flights including partners.

Airlines are usually not able to offer you partner miles, although Star Alliance can and they have capped it at just 7,000. You could always try getting them to up the offer by 10K to 20K miles.
