Singapore Airlines Offers KrisFlyer Redemption For Premium Economy Class Starting May 24th 2016

Singapore Airlines sent out emails to their members this week announcing that Premium Economy Class Redemptions are soon available using your KrisFlyer miles.

The awards will be available from May 24th 2016 and a week after online upgrades will be made available as well.

Singapore Airlines started to roll out their Premium Economy product in the middle of last year (we wrote about it last June – access here) and since then there was a bit of an up and down with the schedule regarding the refitting of the aircraft which soon ran behind.

The email reads:

We’re excited to announce that you may redeem your KrisFlyer miles for Saver Award flights in Premium Economy Class, starting 24 May 2016.

And from 1 June 2016, you will also be able to redeem a one-cabin upgrade from Economy Class to Premium Economy Class, or from Premium Economy Class to Business Class, on aircraft fitted with Premium Economy Class seats.

Premium Economy Class features new seats designed to provide more comfort plus thoughtful touches to enhance your inflight experience – from 13.3″ HD touchscreens to additional meal and beverage options and more. With Premium Economy Class now available on more aircraft and routes, you can enjoy this new way to fly to your favourite destinations.

Since Singapore Airlines introduced the new cabin class KrisFlyer members have been waiting a long time for being able to redeem their miles for upgrades to/from this service class.

As soon as an award booking class for Premium Economy has been established it should be theoretically possible to redeem from other frequent flyer programs as well IF they (SQ) don’t restrict it just like their First Class/Suites cabins. We shall see how this will progress in the next couple months.

We’ve gotten questions from readers almost every month to ask how they can book SQ Premium Economy with their miles but so far there was no option other than booking it outright.

Good to see KrisFlyer finally came around to implement this option so that members are able to use their miles for Premium Economy if they see fit.
