Starwood Preferred Guest: Two Free Nights Select Member Exclusive Promotion (Likely Targeted) – Check Your Dashboard!

Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) has loaded new Select Member Exclusive Promotions, giving away up to two free nights for a Category 1-5 property (2 stays for 1 Free Night).

You would find this promotion on your SPG Dashboard and I was surprised this suddenly showed up in mine just this week as the validity dates are April 1st until June 30th 2016.

I’m always keeping a good eye on my SPG Dashboard (access yours here) as it shows a variety of information such as lifetime status details, UBER earning and also current promotions such as the 11 Brands Promotion (we wrote about it here).

I can say for sure that the current Select Member Exclusive did not show up in my Dashboard before this week even though the promotional period began already on April 1st. Go figure… You would find it at the bottom of the page:

I almost missed the sign up deadline of June 1st had I not monitored the Dashboard beforehand. In fact I could have already completed the promotion last week during my trip to North Africa and Malaysia had this shown up before.

At least this gives another six weeks time to get four stays in which shouldn’t be much of a problem and Category 5 Hotels are really quite useful as they include some very nice properties even though SPG watered down their redemption chart a lot and most desirable hotels are in Category 6 or 7.

Keep in mind that for SPG’s promotions all stays must be under a PAID rate which means awards (both points as well as Cash&Points) are not eligible and won’t count towards the required threshold.

Conclusion

It always pays off to monitor your eligibility for such promotions especially since the programs more often than not don’t send out individual emails anymore. Either you find the promotions yourself or you’re SOL so to speak. I really don’t see the point why they would target someone for a promotion but not notify the customer about it.

This is the first useful targeted promotion I have received from SPG for at least 3 years and I was already getting upset about it to be honest.

Terms & Conditions of this Promotion as per confirmation email:

Eligible member must register by June 1, 2016, 11:59 p.m. EDT. Members can earn one (1) Free Night Award after they book and complete two (2) eligible stays and a second Free Night Award after they complete their fourth (4th) eligible stay from April 1, 2016, through June 30, 2016 (the “promotion period”). This promotion is not transferable. Bookings made prior to the promotion period are eligible, but only eligible stays consumed during the promotion period will earn a bonus.

An eligible stay is a stay with at least 1 eligible paid night at any of the over 1,300 participating Starwood hotels and resorts paying an eligible paid rate during the promotion period.

An eligible rate is any rate that is eligible to earn Starpoints® in the Starwood Preferred Guest® program. Free Night Awards and Cash & Points Award nights are not eligible toward promotional free night earnings. A listing of SPG®-participating hotels and resorts and a description of eligible stays and eligible rates can be found at spg.com under the program terms and conditions. See Section 1.4 for the complete definition of eligible rates, but note that certain prepaid rooms where the booking is made through a third party (including but not limited to travelocity.com, expedia.com and booking.com) are not eligible rates and do not earn Starpoints or qualify toward promotional earnings.

Free Night Awards will be credited to the member’s account within 2–4 weeks of the eligible stay posting to the member’s Starwood Preferred Guest account. Free Night Awards can be redeemed for anyStarwood Category 1–5 hotels or resorts for a standard room for any night of the week. Free Night Awards must be redeemed for stays consumed by September 30, 2016. Members should call SPG customer service and mention Award ID T6DFN1-5 to redeem. Awards are not transferable and may not be redeemed for cash or Starpoints. Unused Awards will be forfeited. Free Night Award stay(s) and night(s) will count toward elite earning qualification. Free Night Award(s) are combinable and may be added to existing paid or Award stays.
