A LoyaltyLobby reader dropped me an email today about issues he was having getting Skywards correctly credited to SPG stays.
You can access SPG’s web page for Your World Rewards here.
Here’s the email from the reader:
I am a silver Emirates member and a Starwoods preferred guest, 12 stays from gold. I am on the world rewards joint scheme but I cannot seem to work out what points I get per spend for both schemes when I stay at Starwoods hotels. I also continually have to upload the invoice for the hotels to Emirates to get the points. In 1 case Emirates claimed that in Dubai they only allocate 500 miles??
Do you have a quick calculation to check against for past and future stays.
Starwood Preferred Guest and Emirates launched Your World Rewards back in 2014 (read more here and here).
SPG Gold and Platinum members receive certain benefits on Emirates such as Starpoints for flights and some priority services for Platinum members at the airport.
Emirates Skywards elite members receive 1 mile per USD spend at Starwood hotels and Gold & Platinum members receive SPG Gold type benefits.
As long as the reader has linked his SPG and Emirates accounts, there should be nothing else to do. The Skywards miles for his SPG stays should post automatically.
Note that this is not earning Emirates miles instead of Starpoints but rather addition to them. I believe that the Emirates Skywards customer service is confused.
The reader should double check that the accounts are correctly linked. It will show the connection your SPG account. Below shows that I have connected my SPG account with Delta one.
There is something wrong going on with the reader’s case. The Your World Rewards bonus points for Starwood stays should post to his Skywards account automatically without having to send folios.
The reader should earn his regular Starpoints to his SPG account and the bonus ones should go to Emirates. As long as the accounts are properly linked, this should all be automatic.
