Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) and China Eastern Airlines are launching “Eastern Explorer Rewards” partnership on the fourth quarter of this year.
SPG has similar deals with Delta Air Lines and Emirates. Undoubtedly this partnership with China Eastern is following in those footsteps.
Eastern Miles (China Eastern’s loyalty program) Gold members will receive SPG Gold “lite” type benefits such as elite check in, 4PM check out and complimentary internet.
SPG Platinum members receive priority check in and boarding, expedited baggage and access to China Eastern’s business class lounges.
Elite SPG and China Eastern members will receive bonus Starpoints for China Eastern flights and Eastern Miles members bonus miles for Starwood stays.
It is interesting that SPG is launching these new partnerships while the entire company is being acquired by Marriott and when the SPG program itself will cease to exist in early 2018 (per information from Marriott).
Starwood has been very quiet about this China Eastern partnership on its English website and news releases (no info at all).
Marriott Rewards has partnered with United Airlines offering RewardsPlus partnership that goes deeper than what SPG does with these three airlines. It is interesting to see if these SPG partnership will move to Marriott Rewards or expire when the SPG programs turns to dust.
