A LoyaltyLobby reader forwarded me an email that he had received from Holiday Inn Express hotel in the UK informing about complimentary room upgrade due to IHG Rewards Club Spire Elite status.
IHG Rewards Club elite level statuses of Gold, Platinum and Spire Elite are rather weak on confirmed benefits compared to what Hilton, Hyatt, Marriott and SPG offer such as confirmed late check outs, complimentary breakfasts, space available room/suite upgrades and club lounge accesses.
You can access IHG’s web page for Elite Statuses here.
Here’s body of the email:
And here’s the comment from the reader:
I got this slightly odd offer – I have stayed in this hotel many times and all the rooms are the same !
I do like my upgrades at the InterContinental hotels for being a Royal Ambassador member. The upgrades at all other IHG brands are inconsistent at best. Some hotels are good while others offer nothing.
It would be good for IHG to have a pilot program such as this but with properties that can actually offer upgrades! Not very good sign to send upgrade emails for stays at HIX (Holiday Inn Express) hotels where most if not all rooms are identical!
