The partnership between Hyatt and MGM Hotels & Resorts isn’t an easy one for participants of each program as it still proves to be difficult to get proper stay credit without going the extra mile.
When I made a reservation for Las Vegas yesterday I noticed that the MLife website now offers to enter the Hyatt Gold Passport number when making the reservation so that both MLife Status and HGP Number are recorded.
I made reservations at many different hotels so we will see how the stay credit to Hyatt Gold Passport works this time around. The last few stays I always had to chase multiple times each which really isn’t a pleasant thing to do.
Here is how it now shows up when you reserve your hotel on the MLife website:
You can book MGM Hotels through a variety of channels including the hotels individual websites with various offer codes or even through Hyatt but the prices vary greatly and often you have to be logged into your MLife Players Club account to receive the best rates.
This is especially important if you have status with Mlife in order to receive your benefits and have the reservation coded properly. For example I currently have Mlife Noir status which comes with complimentary Airport Limousine but to get this booked without the Mlife number recorded requires numerous phone calls as MGM isn’t an easy company to deal with. You have to call the VIP Services desk for each individual hotel to get things booked which is a real mess as they often don’t know hot to do it right.
In case you booked the reservation without putting in your Hyatt Gold Passport number beforehand there is the chance of getting it added at the property during check-in/check-out. Good luck with that though as I had employees that knew exactly how to do it (at the Luxor) and other who didn’t have a clue at all (Mirage, MGM).
Keep all your original receipts when you check out of a MGM Hotel because chances are you have to retro claim later. It doesn’t help that the receipts are horrible and show barely any information, especially none of the loyalty programs.
I had multiple MGM hotel hosts tell me that their system stayed the same for as long as they can remember and it’s very inflexible when it comes to this ‘new stuff’ such as Hyatt loyalty numbers.
Let’s see how this new feature of adding the Gold Passport number right away will have any impact on the stay crediting without further troubles. I have my doubts but maybe I will be positively surprised.
