Etihad Airways has decided to reduce the excess baggage allowance that Guest Gold members are eligible for effective September 19, 2016.
A LoyaltyLobby member forwarded me an email that Etihad had sent out about this change.
You can read more about the Etihad Guest program status benefits here.
Here’s the email:
As part of the progressive alignment of member benefits across eight Etihad Airways Partner airlines (Etihad Airways, airberlin, Alitalia, Air Serbia, Air Seychelles, Etihad Regional, Jet Airways and NIKI), there will be a change to the current excess baggage policy, for travel effective from 19 September 2016.
Details on the excess baggage policy change are as follows:
Current excess baggage allowance
Piece concept 1 piece of 32kg
Weight concept 20kg
New excess baggage allowance
Excess baggage allowance – Piece concept routes
Economy Class 1 piece of 23kg
Business Class 1 piece of 32kg
First Class 1 piece of 32kg
Excess baggage allowance – Weight concept routes
Economy Class 15kg
Business Class 15kg
First Class 15kg
This is not a huge change but those excess baggage charges are sometimes very expensive and this change can affect some. So, essentially weight concept is reduced by 5 kilos and piece concept by 9 kilos if flying in economy.
The email suggests that this change would also be valid when traveling on all Etihad Airways partner airlines.
