It never ceases to amaze me how penny-wise and pound-foolish some full service hotel General Managers can be.
For instance, yesterday while I was at the Sheraton Bratislava I asked if their channel line-up included CNN International. They told me they did not have that channel, but asked if I would like to watch Sky News (Murdoch’s UK-centric TV channel) instead.
As an international traveler that visits 30 to 40 different countries every year, I do expect that full service chain hotels have some consistency, and carrying CNN International is one of them.
For US readers, CNN International carries some shows from the US version of CNN but I would say that 80% of the content is non-US unless there is a breaking news event in the United States. They have a variety of news shows from their offices in Hong Kong, Abu Dhabi and London.
It just never makes sense that some hotels (even limited service hotels) can offer 100+ channels to guests, but a 5-Star hotel next door ends up offering a very limited selection of channels and/or terrible signal quality. As my recent experience has shown, this happens quite frequently.
