Marriott Rewards has made a small but significant change to its program Terms & Conditions that only affects Platinum members.
The change deals with the 500 points or Food & Beverage amenity that Platinum members are eligible on their stays (or the cash compensation in a case that it is not offered).

Here’s the change:
Platinum members are now eligible for the gift only on QUALIFYING STAYS. Also, members that stay on non-qualifying rates are only eligible for the F&B option. Some brands don’t offer the F&B at all and thus there is no gift at those brands.
Although Marriott Rewards updated the T&Cs to include the text above on October 7, 2016, they did forget to change the revision date that still stands as sometime in 2015.
Just a small change to the program T&Cs but members can no longer get the 500 amenity points in lieu of the amenity if their stay is booked on a non-qualifying rate.
