Emirates and GOL, the Brazilian low cost carrier, have launched their codeshare and frequent flier partnership effective today (November 1, 2016).
Emirates and GOL frequent fliers can earn and redeem miles on each others flights effective. The airlines’ have updated their reflective website for earnings info.
You can access the Emirates website for GOL here.
Emirates earning table on GOL:
Most economy class fares won’t earn anything if credited to Emirates. Quite a few of them earn if credited to Delta SkyMiles.
Emirates redemption table for GOL flights:
You have to remember that some of intra-Brazil flights are cheap if you don’t care which of the four airlines operate the flight. Always check prices using Expedia Brazil for local fares that often are not available on foreign websites.
GOL earnings table for Emirates flights:
It is interesting that GOL now has frequent flier agreements in place with all the ME3 (Emirates, Etihad and Qatar Airways). You can use SMILES to redeem on all these airlines (soon on Emirates). SMILES lists Emirates as their partner airline but I couldn’t find any award availability yet.
There are really three airlines that can provide connectivity in Brazil for foreign airlines; LATAM (former TAM part of Oneworld), Azul (has agreement in place with United) and GOL (partly owned by Delta and Air France-KLM). There is also Avianca Brazil that is part of Star Alliance but their network just isn’t there yet.
I have had some Emirates Skywards miles sitting on my account for a while. Will see if I can use them in two weeks time for some GOL flights in South America that I haven’t yet purchased.
