IHG Rewards Club “Clarification on member booking update” Email

Late last week, IHG Rewards Club sent out a cryptic “Member booking update” email that seemed not to contain any updates (read more here).

It did turn out, however, that IHG Rewards Club sent out a different email to the Chinese market that indicated changes coming to award booking process effective January 1, 2017 (read more here).

From 2017, Member need to call and register Guest name with reservation center at least 7 days before, If reward night is not for member himself.

Conclusion

Not sure who at the IHG Rewards Club thought that sending out that “booking update” email last week that contained really no update was a good idea? I am still confused what it was about.

It is still unclear if the updated award booking process also applies to members outside of China. I have requested clarification from IHG spokeswoman but so far have not received any update.
