Loyalty programs are known for trying to keep their elite members close sometimes by offering requalifying at lower nights/miles count or just extending the status outright for another year.
A LoyaltyLobby reader forwarded me an offer that he had received from IHG Rewards Club to keep his Platinum status for another year.
You can access IHG Rewards Club here.

Here’s the offer:
IHG Rewards Club is willing to extend the Platinum status by staying an additional three nights before the end of the year regardless the number of qualifying nights so far.
Has IHG Rewards Club sent out similar offers for Gold and Spire members as well? If so, please email them to me.
Conclusion
As I pointed out on the opening, It is not uncommon for the loyalty programs send out offers such as this. Elite members are far more likely to stay at their properties than those without status. It sometimes makes sense to extend the status without having met the qualification criteria (besides properties are really the ones paying for the possible elite benefits and not the IHG program itself).
