Reader Question: Standard Rooms Available For Cash But Not Using Hilton HHonors Points? Case: DoubleTree Jiaxing

A LoyaltyLobby reader sent me a question regarding award availability at the DoubleTree hotel in Jiaxing China where award rooms are supposed to go for 5,000 HHonors points per night.

Remember that you can always email me, send a message via Facebook or use Twitter and include photos too. I’ll try to cover Reader Questions & Comments here several times a week.

You can access DoubleTree Jiaxing’s website here.

Here’s the message from the reader:

Hilton in Jiaxing blocks rooms for point redemption in December and January.

They do have the guest room for booking by cash. And I never receive any email from them as what they promised.

Here’s chat with Hilton HHonors:

Here’s reply from the property:

Hilton HHonors award nights should be available as long as standard rooms are available for sale. If there is a minimum stay requirement, those do apply for award nights as well when redeemed from non-Diamond accounts.

If hotel has blocked Saturday arrivals, one possible option is to redeem (as long as you are diamond).

Standard Room DoubleTree Jiaxing:

King and Twin rooms at this property are at 5,000 points per night (when they are…).

Standard Room DoubleTree Jiaxing NO awards:

Standard room available for sale but not using points.

Standard Room Awards DoubleTree Jiaxing Weekend Blocked:

When you do flexible date search it is obvious that in slower months, the hotel has blocked award redemptions at the standard level for Saturday and Sunday nights.

Not sure how Hilton HHonors is unable to get their properties to honor (pun intended) the standard room award availability when they are on sale for cash? Shouldn’t be too difficult for HHonors management to fix an issue such as this when member contacts the Guest Assistance.

I contacted Hilton HHonors late last week and got a reply that this issue would have been resolved. Apparently this is not the case, however.

If these properties feel that they are not getting appropriate reimbursement for award nights, they should take it up with Hilton or simply reflag the property. The issue appears mainly to be these properties where award nights are going for 5,000 points per night.
