Avianca has launched yet another LifeMiles sale advertising a tiered bonus of up to 125% for purchases made between November 29th – December 20th, 2016.
You can purchase up to 150,000 LifeMiles every calendar year before any bonuses. You can always buy more miles during the redemption process by substituting some miles for cash.
You can access this offer on Avianca’s website here.
Bonus Table for this promotion:
As can be seen (actually it’s a bit hidden in the T&C of this new promotion) the bonus is tiered based on the amount of points you purchase. LifeMiles has done this in the past already.
If you purchase up to 50,000 Miles you will receive their 2 for 1 100% Bonus.
Purchases from 51,000 – 100,000 Miles will receive an additional 15% Extra.
Purchases from 101,000 – 150,000 Miles will receive 25% on top.
Pricing Option for the maximum amount of miles (150k):
I don’t think that is extraordinarily cheap especially considering the somewhat spiked up award chart. Of course that depends on what you redeem for!
Does it make sense to purchase LifeMiles?
LifeMiles used to be very valuable but the award chart has been devalued few times along the way. There are still some values left such Johns recent SCL-GYE and UIO-POA redemptions that he wrote about here.
You can always “purchase” more LifeMiles during the award redemption process as Avianca allows you to buy up to 50% of the miles needed for about 1.5 cents per mile. I would only buy these if you have a good use for them in the near future.
On top of this you might want to check the pricing for paid ticket on your desired routes even when it comes to premium fares. Tickets have been extremely affordable this year and often it doesn’t make any sense to use miles, let alone purchase them.
