IHG Rewards Club Spire Elite Status Valid Until December 31, 2019?

Late last year, I wrote a piece (access here) when my IHG Rewards Club Spire Elite status was extended until the end of 2018. This likely happened after my Royal Ambassador renewal.

IHG Rewards Club Spire Elite December 31 2019

When I was checking my reservation earlier today, I realized that the elite status has now been renewed until December 31, 2019. This likely happened when the Royal Ambassador was moved to calendar year and my RA status extended from September 30 expiry to December 30.

Even if I wouldn’t have a single stay this year, IHG Rewards Club would give me Platinum Ambassador status for 2018 (downgrade from Royal Ambassador). This would mean that no status come January 1, 2019.

It is real mystery what this status extension until the end of 2019 really means. Gould be that it is just a glitch at the IHG’s end or that they would offer longer soft landings that previously (doubt that this would be the case).

And yes. I am planning to burn some IHG Rewards Club points this year!
