AirAsia X made an announcement today that it will start four weekly flights between Kuala Lumpur to Hawaii via Osaka on June June 28, 2017.
The FAA approved the airline’s request to start flying to the United States late last month (read more here) and AirAsia X wasted no time.
Here’s am excerpt what Malay Online writes (access the piece here):
He said Air Asia X expects the average passenger load on this flight to be more than 80 per cent with a majority being Japanese, and the rest coming from Kuala Lumpur and Asean.
He added that demand for flights to Hawaii is very high among the Japanese and expressed confidence that the low cost airline would be able to attract the market with its low fare offering.
On another note, Kamarudin said it took almost two years of negotiations with the US authorities to fly the low cost airline to Hawaii.
He also said in near term, Air Asia X does not have any other US destination in the pipeline.
Not sure if Japanese passengers are ready for truly low thrills experience that AirAsia X provides. There are plenty of flights between Japan and Hawaii (popular destination for Japanese that anyone staying in Waikiki must have realized) some even operated by Delta and United.
The Osaka airport is REALLY far away from the city center (was there twice last year). Good city to explore the Kyoto.
