Hilton Honors retired the lucrative app booking bonuses at the end of January and introduced one for 500 points that is valid for stays consumed all the way until the end of 2017.
Only reservations that are made using the app are eligible for these bonus points.

Conclusion
All the hotel chains are trying to push members to use their apps more likely to make price discovery difficult and to push their digital key initiatives.
I don’t mind checking using the app if the room upgrade has been processed but rather book on their full site.
