Avianca LifeMiles Award Chart Changes Australia, New Zealand & Oceania Effective May 15, 2017

Avianca LifeMiles today announced changes to award chart effective May 15, 2017, for travel to/from Australia, New Zealand and Oceania.

Avianca LifeMiles Australasia Award Table Change

Three regions will require less miles while seven will require more. This change means that awards to/from this area will require up to 25% more miles.

Airfares from Australia, New Zealand & Oceania tend to be high and many use miles to buy their way to premium cabins. These changes are for areas where Avianca has very few if any “frequent fliers” (more like frequent miles buyers).

It is bit weird that business class return to South Asia costs 100,000 LifeMiles while trip to South America is just 150,000, although probably four/five times the distance.

It is clear that LifeMiles here “penalizes” those that buy miles and use them for Star Alliance awards.
