While walking towards the Grand Hyatt Erawan last week, I realized that the building that will house the Waldorf Astoria Bangkok look pretty much ready and had WA branding outside.
This project was first announced back in 2012 and was scheduled to open in 2015. The scheduled opening date (as of now and obviously subject to change) is January 30, 2018.
You can access Hilton’s page for upcoming Waldorf-Astoria hotels here.
The hotel is surrounded by Grand Hyatt, Renaissance and Anantara hotels. I remember seeing this building coming when staying at the Renaissance hotel thinking what will come of it.
The location is good. I like to be around this area for easy access to Central World and transportation.
Let’s see when this hotel will open but at least the building from outside appears to be finished. The January 30, 2018, opening date thus should be realistic.
The Park Hyatt Bangkok, also delayed by years, should open exactly in two weeks time. The Hyatt Place close to the Hilton Sukhumvit is coming up nicely and there should be Hyatt Regency under construction too along with number of Accor affiliated properties.
Delays with hotel projects is common and especially in Thailand. I still cannot understand that there is enough business (there is!) for all these internationally branded hotels in the city.
