A LoyaltyLobby reader dropped me an email this week indicating that IHG Rewards Club would have ended this promotion effective August 1, 2017.

Here’s the reader’s email to IHG:

I registered for the offer giving 1000 points and then increasing rewards for three stays and a final bonus (OTA Book direct 2017). The offer was to stay at APAC and MEA hotels before 31st December .

I have some stays for November planned . I received the 1000 sign up bonus on May 15th . I noticed on looking yesterday that the offer has disappeared from my list of registered offers . Am I still registered for this offer ? If not can it be reinstated ?

Here’s an email that Ambassador service center had sent to the reader:

Warm greetings from IHG Rewards Club! This is REMOVED and it is a pleasure assisting a valued Platinum Elite Ambassador member like you.

I sincerely apologize that my response is badly delayed. Our incoming e-mail traffic recently picked up in an unexpected way, and we are currently working to catch up again.  My sincere apology, because you may easily have thought we had disregarded your input to us.

I am sorry to inform you that the promotion is no longer active. It has ended last 01 August 2017 that is why it is no longer showing on your end.

Please accept my apologies, as I am aware that this is not the response you would be hoping for. I do hope this will not deter you from considering IHG in the future.

Again, thank you for your email and as ever, I do remain at your disposal if you need any further assistance. I do hope that we can continue to welcome you to IHG again in the near future.

The IHG deposited 20,000 points as a compensation:

I’m sorry to hear that our serviced and promotion disappoints you. It’s not our intention to make you feel like you were fooled. I want to assure you that we take all feedback very seriously and you can be sure we’ve earmarked your comment for the future enhancement of our program.

I doubled checked the information here on my end and seems like the end date for the promotion is 01 August 2017. I understand that you’ve already made plans just to comply to the promotion’s requirements, so I’m willing to work with you on this, I may not be able to extend the promotion period for you to gain the 40,000 points so I’ll just deposit half of what you should get, which is 20,000 points to compensate for the trouble you had with this promotion.

Once again, thank you for informing us about your situation. I hope you’ll still consider IHG hotels for your booking. Should you require further assistance, please feel free to contact the IHG Rewards Club Service Center again.

The reader contacted IHG:

IHG gave me the other 20K points this morning ,so I now have the full 40K as goodwill. They said that they would take down the web page for the offer . They are still saying it expired on August 1st .

If you are planning to take advantage of this Book Direct-promo, have signed up for it and have already made the reservations, you probably should contact the IHG Rewards Club. Seems that something is up with the promotion.

I have requested clarification from the IHG Rewards Club spokesperson. Didn’t hear back yet because this offer is administered from their Singapore office.

At least one reader was able to get the points deposited to his account as a “GOODWILL”. Not sure if all can be as lucky. Why would IHG suddenly decide to withdraw an offer (if that turns out to be the case)? Doesn’t make any sense.

I already completed this offer within a month after it was launched. Was great way to earn some bonus points for stays that I had done anyways.
