A LoyaltyLobby reader sent me an email regarding buying IHG Rewards Club points using the Points + Cash awards.
You you can access IHG Rewards Club here.
Here’s the email from the reader:
What’s the trick where one purchase’s IHG points with cash and points and then cancels and keeps the points for a later use?
What is the process is what I’m asking?
Also is there a way to stay at holiday in express, inexpensively?
IHG Rewards Club in reality doesn’t have Points + Cash awards. It only sells you points at a discounts during the reservation process and then issue the awards using full points.
If you later cancel the award, the point purchase cannot be reversed. IHG Rewards Club is very clear on this during the process.
You can buy points using this method but I would advice against going overboard. I have not heard anyone having their account closed recently but some had few years back.
You always need to compare paid and award rates. Awards are not necessary good deal even when you buy the points at a discount.
IHG Rewards Club sells points at 100% bonus several times throughout the year and we cover those sales here on LoyaltyLobby.
This Points + Cash trick is good to keep on mind if someone needs small number of points for an award reservation, however.
