SPG has launched new promotion for double Starpoints or JAL Mileage Bank miles for stays in Japan, Korea & Guam between October 1 – December 30, 2017, that are booked after September 1.

The terms and very clear that you don’t have to choose miles but you can earn double Starpoints as well.

I would assume that this is based on paying Best Available Rate for the stay. Doesn’t make sense unless there are no discounted rates available (or perhaps if someone else ends up paying or reimbursing for your stay).

Here are the participating properties:

Campaign Reservation Requirements : Starwood Preferred Guest® Members who are also JAL Mileage Bank members (“Eligible Members”) must reserve for stays online between September 1, 2017, through 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time (ET), December 30, 2017 (the “booking period”) at apac.starwoodoffers.com/jaldoublepoints with the eligible rate plan “JKGJMB”(“Reserved members” and “Reserved accommodations”). Reserved members can earn bonus JAL Mileage Bank Miles or bonus Starpoints® on eligible spend on Reserved accommodations  booked between October 1, 2017, through December 30, 2017 (the “stay period”), at participating hotels and resorts in the SPG® program that are located in Japan, Guam and Korea (the “Offer” or “Promotion”).

Stay: Reserved members will earn double JAL Mileage Bank Miles or Starpoints at participating hotels and resorts on every eligible spend during the Reserved Accommodations. Elite-level extra Starpoints earnings and other bonuses will not be doubled. Only the base two-Starpoints-per-dollar eligible earnings are doubled.  Offer is eligible with other Starpoints promotions; however, each offer will award bonus Starpoints independently of each other, and offers may not be combined.

Bonusing: In order to receive the bonus offer as JAL Mileage Bank Miles, an Eligible Member needs to register themselves at www.spg.com/moremiles. If not registered, Eligible Members will earn bonus Starpoints and it is within their discretion to convert them to JAL Mileage Bank Miles. The bonus Miles / Starpoints will post to the Reserved member’s account within two [2] to four [4] weeks after the eligible stay posts.

Eligible stays and nights: An eligible stay is defined as one or more consecutive nights paying an eligible rate in the same hotel or resort, regardless of the number of check-ins or checkouts that occur, and posting to the registered member’s Starwood Preferred Guest account. An eligible night is defined as at least one night paying an eligible rate in the earning period. An eligible rate is a rate booked under the rate plan “JKGJMB”. Note that certain prepaid room reservations — such as when the booking is made through a third party, including but not limited to travelocity.com, expedia.com, orbitz.com and delta.com — are not considered eligible rates and do not earn Starpoints or qualify for promotional earnings. Stays must be booked through any Starpoints-eligible channel, which includes a travel professional who books through those channels or the GDS. Stays will be processed for the promotion in the order they post to the registered member’s account.
